REGISTER FOR CLASSES
Each department handles the class registration process for their graduate students differently. We encourage you to contact your graduate program coordinator as soon as possible to identify what steps you should take to get registered for the upcoming term. From our Program Database, click on the link for your major program of study and contact the person listed as “Program Coordinator.”
You can register forWVUclasses on-line! Go to theWVUPortal and click on “WVU Star System.”
TheWVUon-line registration site offers many useful options. To use the site, you will need to log on with your User ID and Personal Identification Number (PIN).
To add/drop courses, you will also need a TermPIN. You must meet with your academic advisor atWVUto obtain yourPINand TermPIN. He/she will also help you in selecting courses to meet your academic goals.
Along with allowing you to register forWVUclasses, the online registration site also provides these and many other useful features:

PROGRAM CONTACT INFORMATION
Your faculty and staff in your admitted program of study will serve as your primary contact and source of details in regards to your graduate studies atWVU. If you do not already know who this person is, you can contact the graduate program coordinator. From our Program Database, click on the link for your major program of study and contact the person listed as “Program Coordinator.”

GRADUATE HANDBOOK
Many departments atWVUalso provide graduate handbooks for students. Check with your department to see if they have one for specific plans of study and degree requirements.
STUDENT SERVICE DAYS
This drop-in service is a one-stop-shop for those who have questions and are not sure where to go!
Student Service Days will be held in the Mountainlair Ballrooms (located on the second floor of the Mountainlair Student Union) Friday, August 15 from 9-6, Saturday, August 16 from 10-2, and Monday, August 18 from 9-4. No appointment needed – just drop by with questions for any of the following offices:
- Office of the University Registrar (questions about course registration or your student record)
- Financial Aid Office (questions answered about loans or waiver questions)
- Office of Students Accounts (questions about or to pay your bill)
- Office of Student Employment (look for on- or off-campus employment opportunities or possible last minute graduate assistant positions)
- Payroll Processing (complete processing for your graduate assistantship, student job etc. if you have not already)
- Off-Campus Dining (check out the commuter meal plans and see if one might work for you)
- General Help Desk (staff here can provide campus tours, answer questions and help guide you to finalizing any loose ends you may have before classes begin!)
MOUNTAINEER CARD
Your Mountaineer Cardis a combination ID,PRT, library, copy, Rec Center, athletics and food service card. It is the one card you will need on campus and can be obtained once you are registered for classes. Some programs will have you complete this task as part of department orientations. If not, however, new students need to have their pictures taken before a Mountaineer Card can be issued; you may come in to a Mountaineer Card Office the day after you register for classes. You may go to either the Bennett Tower or Mountainlair Mountaineer Card Services office to get your first Mountaineer Card. Bring your driver’s license, passport, or other photo ID when you pick up your card.
The Mountaineer Card can also be used to access Mountie Bounty – an on-campus debit plan used to make purchases at a variety of locations you may use regularly on campus. To add funds to your Mountie Bounty account, please visit http://mymountaineercard.wvu.edu.
Once you have your card, all updates and verifications are done online. Information on the fees paid in the Office of Student Accounts will be shared with Mountaineer Card Services and will determine access or denial to services such as thePRTand Student Recreation Center. INTERNATIONALI-20 PROCESS
International students must complete the I-20 process. When you receive your notification of acceptance to West Virginia University, the next step is to apply for a visa. You will need to have aWVUissued I-20 or DS-2019 to make your consular appointment for your visa.
VISIT CAMPUS
If you have not already done so, we invite you to visit campus. We offer tours specifically focused on graduate students on Mondays every week at 1:30 p.m. These tours are typically hosted by graduate student tour guides and give you an overview of campus and the surrounding community that you will call home. The Visitors Center staff can also help to set up additional meetings across campus if you need – just ask!
If the graduate student tour time does not work for you, however, general campus tours are offered twice daily Monday through Saturday and welcome any and all students.
We also offer a virtual tourif you are unable to visit before classes start.
