Ohio State Day at Cedar Point (2024)

Just got an email from Ohio State about this event! It looks like a great deal for any Ohio State Alumni or students out there and we get a chance to ride Gatekeeper before the general public! Anyone else out there planning on going? Info here- http://www.cedarpoint.com/plan-a-visit/ohio-state-day

So this kind of makes the first to ride auctions for charity not as significant, since you would be bidding to NOT be the first to ride the ride. Unless they intend to do this on the same day, or perhaps an earlier date.
Also note: by sharing this, the general public now has access to this day How is this alumni association going validate that each and every person at the park is in fact an Ohio grad/student? Cedar Point's website does not specify in the ticket area that you must be an alumni.

I assume you will have to verify that you are a student or alumni at some point in the process. The information is posted on the website where anyone in the general public can see, so it is not like it is being hidden. I only shared it in hopes that I could possibly find some fellow alumni to share the experience with.

I got all the way up to entering the payment info, and all it asked for was the year that you graduated from OSU. That doesn't mean they won't have some further way of verifying your status, like by checking a list at the gate, but it seems anyone can buy a ticket through the website.

And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun

If you want to get technical, they wouldn't be the "first riders" anyways. Everyone involved with the park and building the coaster that will ride it after its cleared and past all safety testing, then media day etc.

First riders when the park is open to the public, yes! :)

Wait... It's not just for alumni? Students can get in, too? Where do you see that, because if students can get in then I am very happy.

Figures, I finally have the means to donate money to be among the first of the general public to ride and they don't do it. :)

The OSU Alumni and students can stay onsite for real cheap prices as well. Not sure what would stop anyone from just typing in the OSU promotional code on the resort website and just paying those rates. At check in, I am sure they don't check.

I just called the park and they said that CP and OSU haven't come to a conclusion yet on how they're going to confirm you're an OSU alumni. I doubt they're going to have a roster of all the graduating classes since the 1800s and check your ID for verification.

This happened in 2000 as well. There were two private events before the park opened to the public. One was on May 6 for the Longaberger Basket Company. The second was on May 7 for AAA members. The first ride auction was still held for Millennium Force and riders took their ride on the park's opening day, May 13.

Yes it is also for students. D-tix actually has the tickets on sale for $25 for current students!

Atleast this is better than Kings Island. Every year they open the park then close it the next day for a private event. It's much easier to do the private event the day before.

Enjoy the rest of your day at America's Rockin' Roller Coast! Ride On!

I better remember not to wear any University of Michigan clothing that day.. I guess I will wait to get more information in case I need to produce some documentation or I have to bribe a few coworkers to tag along..

"alumni and their guests" so one alumni could be good for a whole slew of people?

Does anyone know if season passes would be applied to this instead of having to buy a ticket?

I wonder what I do since I have a season pass. I still can't see where it says students can get in, but I'm excited.

This is what the email I received said and it includes students.

"The Ohio State University Alumni Association brings you Ohio State Day at Cedar Point!
Friday, May 10, from 11a.m. – 9p.m.
Enjoy a special one-of-a-kind day of fun, entertainment, networking and family time for
The Ohio State University alumni, students, friends, and their guests at the Best Amusem*nt Park In The World. When you attend Ohio State Day at Cedar Point, you’ll have the exclusive opportunity to try out the most exciting new coaster opening this spring: GateKeeper, an incredible wing coaster that will make you feel like you’re riding on the wings of a jet!
This is a private event not open to the public. (Cedar Point opens for the 2013 season on Saturday, May 11.) $25 student tickets (2 ticket limit/student with valid Buck ID)"

I also have a platinum pass so I am wondering if we still have to buy a ticket.

Just my 2 cents, but I think Season and Platinum Passes are good for all public operating days of the 2013 season. Since the first public operating day is May 11, I would think Ohio State Day on May 10 is tickets-only.

I suppose you have to make a judgment on whether its worth $35 or $25 to get to ride Gatekeeper multiple times and wait in shorter lines than will be the case on most other days this season.

Since opening day is Saturday May 11th, a lot of people stay overnight at the hotels Friday May 10th. A lot of people have season passes. If they accept season passes and don't require any form of ID at the gate, I wonder what will stop season pass holders from just going up to the gate, scanning in, and walking into the park.

So the email posted above mentions $25 student tickets with a valid BuckID. If you go to the ticket purchasing site, there is no option to purchase a Student ticket. Does this mean you can only buy day of at the gate?
